About Bear Lodge
Bear Lodge was custom built in 2004, as a lodging facility overlooking the north end of
the Inside Passage.
Bear Lodge is located on serene Lutak inlet, 3 miles from the Alaska Tate ferry terminal and 8.7 miles from
downtown Haines, Alaska.
Eagles and bears are a common sight near the Lodge. It is located near a crucial salmon habitat.
Chilkoot River and Chilkoot State Park are just 1 1/2 miles away, offering great wildlife viewing and
fishing opportunities.
Visitors to HainesBear Lodge are greeted by this massive carved grizzly bear. The bear was carved from a 1,500 year-old
redwood stump. The main tree was cut down in the late 1800's by loggers in Northern California. The stump was
discovered in 2003. It took two weeks to remove the stump with heavy equipment. The stump was then transported to
Paso Robles, California where it was carved by John Daniels into the awesome work of art that visitors to Bear
Lodge can enjoy.
